Before & after

After donating blood — recovery and next steps

Water, snack, no heavy lifting for a day. What's normal, what's not, and when you can donate again.

Right after (at the centre):

  • Rest 10–15 minutes with the snack and drink
  • Keep the bandage on for 4–5 hours

Same day:

  • Drink more water than usual
  • No heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for 24 hours
  • No alcohol for 24 hours
  • If you feel dizzy: sit or lie down immediately — it passes in minutes

Normal: a small bruise at the needle site (a warm compress helps, from day two), mild tiredness by evening.

Not normal — contact the centre: bleeding that doesn’t stop after pressure, feeling unwell the next day, fever.

Then: tap “I donated today” on your donor profile — we hide you from matching for your full interval (3 months men / 4 women) and bring you back automatically.
