the classic donation
Whole blood.
About 350–450 ml of blood exactly as it is, red cells, plasma and platelets together. The donation itself takes about 10 minutes.
Why patients need it
Whole blood is separated at the centre into its components, so one donation can help up to three patients. It remains the most common donation type at Assam camps.
How it's donated
A needle in the arm, a bag on the couch, ten minutes. 350 ml if you weigh 45–55 kg, 450 ml above that (national standards).
Eligibility
Standard donor rules apply: 18–65, 50 kg+, Hb 12.5+. Men every 3 months, women every 4.
Every component starts with a registered donor
Two minutes to join the register. We contact you only when a patient near you needs what you have.
