What A+ means
A+ red cells carry the A antigen and the Rh(D) antigen, and A plasma carries anti-B antibodies. That combination decides everything about giving and receiving.

- A+ red cells go to: A+ and AB+ patients.
- A+ patients receive from: A+, A−, O+ and O− donors.
- A+ plasma: carries anti-B, so it suits A and AB patients, useful, though AB is the true universal plasma.
Where A+ units actually go
Routine transfusion runs on groups like A+: planned surgeries, cancer patients between chemotherapy cycles, mothers with complicated deliveries, anaemia admissions, thalassemia schedules. None of it makes the news; all of it consumes units on predictable weekly rhythms. Because A+ patients are numerous, A+ demand behaves like a heartbeat, steady, and it never skips.
