O+ is one of the more common groups in India, roughly 1 in 3 of the population, which also means it is needed constantly.
Can O+ donors give plasma and platelets too?
Plasma and platelet compatibility follows different (partly inverted) rules from red cells: AB plasma is universal, O plasma only suits O patients. The blood centre decides what is drawn and who it matches.
Why does the register ask for my blood group?
So patients' families never get pings that can't help: requests reach only compatible donors near them. Don't know your group? Register as “not sure”, camps and centres test it free.
