A+ red cells can go to patients with: A+, AB+. Compatibility is decided by the blood centre's crossmatch, never self-match.

Who can donate to an A+ patient?

A+ patients can receive red cells from: A+, A−, O+, O−.

Is A+ a rare blood group?

A+ is one of the more common groups in India, roughly 1 in 5 of the population, which also means it is needed constantly.

Can A+ donors give plasma and platelets too?

Plasma and platelet compatibility follows different (partly inverted) rules from red cells: AB plasma is universal, O plasma only suits O patients. The blood centre decides what is drawn and who it matches.

Why does the register ask for my blood group?

So patients' families never get pings that can't help: requests reach only compatible donors near them. Don't know your group? Register as “not sure”, camps and centres test it free.
