A− is rare in India, under 1 in 100 of the population. Rare-group patients depend heavily on voluntary registers like ours.
Can A− donors give plasma and platelets too?
Plasma and platelet compatibility follows different (partly inverted) rules from red cells: AB plasma is universal, O plasma only suits O patients. The blood centre decides what is drawn and who it matches.
Why does the register ask for my blood group?
So patients' families never get pings that can't help: requests reach only compatible donors near them. Don't know your group? Register as “not sure”, camps and centres test it free.
